FAQs
Returns & exchanges
What is your returns policy?
We offer returns within 30 days of receipt. To be eligible, the item must be unused and unwashed, in its original packaging with tags attached, and in resalable condition.
Email hello@whom.com.au with your name, order number and reason for return before sending anything back. Return shipping on change of mind is at your own expense, and we ask that you return via a tracked method.
Sale and promotional items can be returned only if genuinely faulty. Gift cards aren't refundable. Full detail is on our returns page.
Can I exchange for a different size or colour?
Yes. Email hello@whom.com.au within 30 days of delivery with your order number and what you'd like instead, and we'll reserve the replacement for you.
Change-of-mind exchanges are at your own cost. You cover return postage to us, and postage on the replacement going back out. The item needs to be unused, unwashed and in its original packaging.
If your item is faulty or incorrect, exchanges are always free and we cover postage both ways.
I'm not sure which size to order
Please ask us before you order rather than after. Our Size Guide has full measurements for every size, and our fitted sheets have 40cm deep pockets as standard, 50cm on Super King.
If you're between sizes, have a deep mattress or use a thick topper, email hello@whom.com.au and we'll tell you honestly what will fit.
What if my item is faulty or incorrect?
Always covered, always free, whenever you notice. Email hello@whom.com.au with your name, order number, and a photograph of the item and the fault.
Our bamboo lyocell
What's the difference between bamboo viscose and bamboo lyocell?
It is the single most useful thing to understand when you are comparing bamboo bedding — and most brands would rather you didn't ask.
Viscose is what the majority of bamboo sheets are made from. Bamboo pulp is dissolved in harsh solvents which are then discharged as waste, and the process weakens the fibre along the way.
Lyocell uses a closed-loop process, in which the solvent is captured and reused rather than released. The fibre that comes out the other side is longer, stronger and smoother — it resists pilling far better, and it holds its softness for years rather than months.
Lyocell costs considerably more to produce, which is why so few brands use it. All of our bedding is 100% organic bamboo lyocell.
Do bamboo sheets pill?
Bamboo viscose, which is most of what's sold, is weakened by chemical processing and tends to pill sooner. Our lyocell is spun in a closed-loop process that leaves the fibre longer and stronger, and is independently tested by SGS with the highest possible rating for resistance to pilling. Wash cold, keep it out of the dryer, wash separately, and when pills do appear a fabric shaver lifts them away in a minute.
Slight pilling is normal for natural fibres, especially in response to friction, and isn't a fault or defect.
Do bamboo sheets help with night sweats?
They are one of the most effective things you can change, yes.
Bamboo lyocell is unusually breathable, and it wicks moisture away from the skin rather than holding it against you the way cotton does. The result is a more even temperature through the night — fewer of the sharp swings between too hot and clammy-cold that wake you at three in the morning.
For anyone moving through perimenopause or menopause, or simply sleeping warm through an Australian summer, it is a gentler night. Many of our customers tell us it was the first change that made a noticeable difference.
Are bamboo sheets good for allergies and sensitive skin?
Naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial, our bedding is a gentle choice for sensitive skin and for anyone who wakes with allergies.
The smooth, closed surface of lyocell gives dust and allergens far less to cling to than a napped or brushed fabric, and it is kind against skin that asks for a little more care — which is why it suits sensitive and acne-prone skin so well.
Every thread is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, so none of the hundred or more substances known to be harmful is present in the finished cloth. We never treat our fabric with chemical softeners or optical brighteners.
If you have a specific skin condition, we would always suggest checking with your doctor first.
Are bamboo sheets good for pet owners?
Bamboo lyocell is one of the best fabrics you can put on a bed a dog or a cat sleeps on. The fibres are round and exceptionally smooth, and the weave is tight and closed with no brushed nap — so there is nothing for hair to weave into or cling tightly to. It also carries very little static charge, which is what makes fur grip synthetics and brushed cotton. Most of it slides straight off, and a shake or a quick lint roller takes the rest.
How much comes away in one go does depend on your animal. A short, coarse coat lifts off almost completely; a fine, soft undercoat mid-shed will still want a wash, as it would on any fabric. Our bedding is naturally antibacterial and washes beautifully cold.
Why Whom? Aren't all bamboo sheets the same?
No — and the differences sit in two places.
The fibre. Most bamboo bedding is viscose. Ours is lyocell, which is stronger, smoother and made in a closed-loop process. Our fabric is independently tested by SGS and achieved the highest possible rating for bamboo pilling, and all of our production partners are certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.
The making. What happens to the cloth after it is woven is what separates one set of bamboo sheets from another, and it is where we spend our time. Our bedding is finished with contrasting piped edge detailing, engraved buttons, inner corner ties to hold a duvet in place, and a short-side label so you can make the bed without guessing.
Every design is drawn in our Melbourne studio from our founders' travels. You won't find the same design anywhere else in the world.
Where are your products made?
Our bamboo lyocell bedding is designed in our Melbourne studio and produced by manufacturing partners we have worked with since we began.
What matters most in bedding is who you choose to work with, and how carefully the cloth is finished once it is woven. Our partners are certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, our fabric is independently tested by SGS, and we hold our partners to fair workplace practices.
Our homewares are sourced from makers around the world.
Is your bamboo eco-friendly and chemical-free?
Yes. All of our production partners are certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 — an independent testing system that checks for traces of over 100 substances commonly used in textile production which are known to be harmful to human health.
Our lyocell is also made in a closed-loop process, meaning the solvent used to turn bamboo pulp into fibre is captured and reused rather than discharged as waste — a meaningful difference from conventional bamboo viscose.
We also plant one tree for every order placed.
What's the difference between bamboo and cotton sheets?
Bamboo lyocell fibre is finer and rounder than cotton, which is what gives it that noticeably smoother, more fluid drape — closer to silk than to crisp percale cotton.
It is also considerably more breathable and better at regulating temperature, which is why it suits hot sleepers and Australian summers particularly well. It wicks moisture rather than holding it.
Cotton is more robust and handles hot washing and tumble drying better. Bamboo asks for a gentler wash, and rewards it with a softness that increases over time rather than wearing away.
How do I wash bamboo sheets?
Wash separately — not mixed with other fabrics or dark linen — in cold water on a gentle cycle, using a mild detergent such as a wool wash.
Avoid bleach, fabric softeners and optical brighteners entirely.
Line dry in the shade wherever you can. If you do use a dryer, keep it on low and take your bedding out before it is fully dry — heat is the single biggest cause of bamboo bedding losing its softness, and a hot wash or a hot dryer will do more harm than years of use.
How do I remove a stain?
Never use bleach — our bamboo lyocell is delicate and bleach will ruin it.
Mix one part baking soda with two parts water to form a paste. Dampen the stain, apply the paste, let the fabric dry, then gently brush off any residue and wash in cold water.
A mild, eco-friendly pre-soak and stain remover also works. If you're unsure, test a small area of the sheet first.
Sizing & fit
Will these fit my deep mattress?
Our fitted sheets have 40cm deep pockets as standard, and our Super King fitted sheet goes to 50cm. That accommodates most Australian mattresses, including pillow-top and deeper foam mattresses.
If your mattress is deeper than 50cm, or you've added a thick topper, email us at hello@whom.com.au before ordering and we'll tell you honestly whether it will work.
Will my sheets shrink?
Barely. Our fabric is pre-washed and pre-shrunk before it is cut and sewn, and we build a small extra allowance into every size to absorb any minor movement in the first few washes.
Bamboo lyocell is heat-sensitive, however, and heat is what causes shrinkage. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, and line dry in the shade wherever you can.
What are the dimensions of your bedding?
Our bed linen is designed to fit standard Australian pillow, duvet and mattress sizes. Full measurements for every size are on our Size Guide.
