Hot chocolate is our favourite winter hot drink. During our travels in Iceland, we warmed up to a hot cup of chocolate.
The Icelandic hot chocolate tasted different than our local Melbourne hot chocolate. It was simply delicious and very simple to make.
When making a hot chocolate in Icelandic style, the trick is to add a pinch of sea salt and vanilla. This will elevate the hot chocolate into a whole new dimension.
Ingredients:
+ 2 cups milk
+ 4 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened)
+ 1 tablespoon white sugar
+ 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
+ 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions:
1. Heat milk in a saucepan over medium-high heat. When the milk starts to froth, turn down the heat to medium-low.
2. Add cocoa, sugar, vanilla, and salt to the saucepan. Use a whisk to mix the contents until thoroughly combined.
3. Serve in mugs with whipped cream and cocoa powder (optionally).
