Hot Mulled Wine & Mulled Wine Cocktail
Mulled wine has always traditionally been served hot and it will always remind us of our trip in Europe - getting lost amongst the wooden stalls at the Salzburg Christmas market whilst sipping on a cup of hot mulled wine and the aromas of Christmas baked food, magical lights and Christmas gifts.
This mulled wine recipe will transport you to the land of ice and snowflakes – a white Christmas fairy tale.

Ingredients:
+ 1 bottle red wine
+ ⅔ cup (150ml) water
+ 4 tbsp brown sugar
+ 1/2 cup tequila (optional )
+ 1 orange quartered
+ 1 cinnamon stick
+ 4 cloves
+ 1 star anise
Optional (For chilled mulled wind cocktail):
+ Lemonade
+ Ice
+ Frozen raspberries
Instructions:
- Add the wine, water, sugar, cinnamon, cloves and orange to a large saucepan and heat but don’t allow it to boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- If it’s not spicy enough to suit your preference, continue cooking over very low heat for 5 more minutes allowing the aromas to infuse.
- Strain it over a bowl to remove all the ‘bits’. Garnish with orange for the classic hot mulled wine.
- For mulled wine cocktail, add ice and frozen raspberries to a tall glass, then fill halfway with the cooled mulled wine. Top up with fizzy lemonade.
